The Connecting Link

History

The Connecting Link was a New Age magazine that covered channelling, flying saucers and consciousness themes. It was published in Michigan, at Alto near Grand Rapids, by Barrie and Susanne Konicov, with Susanne Konicov as editor. The magazine appeared from about 1990 and ran through the decade in an oversized format. Its contents carried channelled material attributed to named writers alongside articles on saucers, contact and personal spirituality.

By the account given in the foreword to Barbara Marciniak's Bringers of the Dawn (1992), the writer Tera Thomas moved to Michigan in 1988 to help start the magazine with the Konicovs. The publication was established over the following two years and was running steadily by the start of the 1990s. The publishing imprint was recorded on the issues as E.L.I.

The Connecting Link belongs to the documentary record as an example of the New Age publishing that absorbed saucer and contact material during the late 1980s and the 1990s. It sits alongside the contactee newsletters and the consciousness press of the same years, and it shows how the saucer subject moved through New Age channels well after the classic contactee era. A documented example is Issue 26, Winter 1994, published by E.L.I. at Alto, Michigan, with a contents list of channelled and New Age pieces.
