History

Filer's Files is a weekly UFO report compiled by George A. Filer III, a retired United States Air Force major and the Eastern Region Director of the Mutual UFO Network. It has appeared since the mid-1990s as an emailed and web-published bulletin, numbered in a fresh sequence each year, and it continues to the present. Each issue gathers recent sighting reports, arranged by American state and by country, with commentary from Filer.

Filer began circulating the bulletin in the second half of the 1990s. In a statement of 2002 he described having produced it each week for over five years, which places the start around 1996 to 1997. Early issues include numbers from 1998 and 1999, each carrying the year in its issue number, for example Filer's Files Number 19, 1998. The bulletin has always been a born-digital publication, distributed by email and on the web rather than in print, latterly through the National UFO Center.

Filer's Files belongs to the documentary record as one of the longest-running regular UFO bulletins of the internet era. It carried the weekly-digest form of the earlier printed newsletters into email and the web, and its run from the 1990s into the present makes it a continuous week-by-week record of reported sightings across that period.
