History

Gold Sector 1 was an American UFO bulletin published during the 1980s. The publication served as a clearinghouse for local UFO reports, reader comments, and community information. Its informal, newsletter-style format encouraged direct reader participation, with regular calls for information sharing and sighting submissions from its subscriber base.

The name suggests either a geographic designation for the area covered (a "sector" of reporting territory, common among 1980s UFO network organisers) or a reference to the monitoring grid systems used by some civilian UFO tracking groups. Either way, the publication functioned as a relay point: readers sent in their sighting reports, and the bulletin redistributed them to the subscriber list. This was the infrastructure of pre-internet UFO reporting, operating on photocopied pages and first-class stamps.

Before the internet, local UFO bulletins like Gold Sector 1 were the only way a witness in a small town could learn that someone fifty miles away had seen the same thing on the same night. Archive editorial assessment
