History
Nexus is an Australian alternative-news magazine based in Queensland. It was founded in 1986 and has run since, latterly as a bi-monthly. It covers a wide range of fringe and alternative subjects, among them suppressed science, alternative health, geopolitics and conspiracy claims, and the unexplained, including UFOs. The archive holds it for its sustained coverage of the UFO and anomalies field within that wider alternative press.
The magazine was founded in 1986 by Ramses H. Ayana, with Jenni Elf, as a quarterly covering human rights, the environment, alternative health, New Age subjects and the paranormal. Duncan Roads bought it in 1990 and refocused it on suppressed information, the unexplained and what he termed alternative science, dropping several of the original subjects and moving to a bi-monthly schedule. It has been based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, at Mapleton and later Maleny, and has appeared in several languages and overseas editions, issued abroad as Nexus New Times.
Nexus belongs to the documentary record as one of the longer-running alternative-press outlets to carry UFO and anomalies material to a broad readership from the 1980s onward, and as an Australian publication with an international reach.
