Owlexandrian Initiate
Allen H. Greenfield's 1972 convention-circuit report
History
Owlexandrian Initiate is held in the archive as a 1972 single-document report authored by Allen H. Greenfield, the Atlanta-based researcher, occultist, and longtime fixture of the National UFO Conference circuit. The report covers four civilian-research conventions held in June 1972: Triclave in Johnson City, Tennessee; Mid America Con in Kansas City; the Third Midwest UFO Conference in Quincy, Illinois; and the Ninth Congress of Scientific Ufologists in Logansport, Indiana. The four-convention sweep reflects the consolidated 1972 American civilian-research circuit at its operational peak, with named researchers travelling between regional and national gatherings on the same June schedule.
The most consequential editorial item in the report is the Ninth Congress of Scientific Ufologists action at Logansport, at which the organisation formally renamed itself the National UFO Conference. The Congress had been operating under the "Scientific Ufologists" name since the 1967 Commodore Hotel meeting in New York. The 1972 Logansport renaming closed that nomenclature and opened the National UFO Conference era which continues in modified form into the present. Greenfield himself was awarded the Robert Loftin Memorial Award at the same Logansport meeting, placing him in the Congress's formal honours list alongside Allan Manak whose 1971 award at the Seventh Congress in Columbus, Ohio is documented through the Journal of the Congress of Scientific Ufologists Number 3.
For the 1967 founding event the Owlexandrian Initiate report describes the renaming of, see Congress of Scientific Ufologists. For the Loftin-Award proceedings that preceded Greenfield's 1972 award, see Journal of the Congress of Scientific Ufologists Number 3 covering the Seventh Congress at Columbus, Ohio. For the Moseley-Barker line of civilian-research publications inside which the Congress operated, see Saucer News and Saucerian Bulletin. The archive holds the single 1972 Owlexandrian Initiate report.
