Beatriz Villarroel
L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science laureate (2022) and principal investigator of the VASCO project, which mines historical Palomar Sky Survey plates for objects that appeared and vanished within minutes. Her 2021 paper documented nine such transients on a single 1950 plate aligning in a manner inconsistent with known astrophysical processes. Now leads ExoProbe, which searches for non-terrestrial artefacts in Earth's vicinity. Argued at the meeting that the scientific establishment's reluctance to investigate UAP is itself an empirical question worth investigating.
