Galileo Project Pacific Ocean Expedition Recovers IM1 Spherules

In June 2023 the Galileo Project mounted a fourteen-day expedition aboard the M/V Silver Star to the Pacific Ocean north of Manus Island, Papua New Guinea, recovering roughly 700 metallic spherules from the seafloor at the impact site of CNEOS 2014-01-08 (IM1), a bolide the United States Space Command had certified as interstellar in origin. A subset of the spherules showed a beryllium, lanthanum and uranium composition the team designated BeLaU, published in Chemical Geology in September 2024.
