Bill Chalker

Researcher Author Chemist 🇦🇺 Sydney, Australia

Bio

Bill Chalker is an Australian UAP researcher who has been investigating cases continuously since the 1970s. Trained as a chemist, Chalker has applied a forensic-evidence orientation to his work and is one of the few researchers in Australia whose tenure spans the entire transition from print-era newsletter publishing through to the blog and podcast era of the present day.

Chalker is the author of The OZ Files: The Australian UFOs Story (1996), one of the standard reference works on Australian UFO history, and Hair of the Alien: DNA and Other Forensic Evidence of Alien Abduction (2005), which presents the Peter Khoury case and the DNA analysis of an associated hair sample. Both books remain in print.

He maintains The OZ Files blog, an ongoing public research archive that has accumulated substantial primary source material on Australian cases including Westall 1966, the Tully Nest 1966, the Knowles Nullarbor encounter 1988, the Valentich disappearance 1978, and Reverend Cruttwell's 1959 Papua New Guinea investigation. His Westall coverage is regularly cited in the media commemorations of the case's 60th anniversary in 2026.

On UAP

Chalker's editorial position emphasises evidentiary rigour, primary-source documentation, and the historical record. His writing draws heavily on the National Archives of Australia, RAAF documents, and his own decades of correspondence with witnesses, investigators, and officials. He has been a long-running affiliate of the Australian UFO research community via the UFO Investigation Centre and connected groups.

In 2025 and 2026 Chalker has contributed extensively to public coverage of the Westall 1966 case and its renewed petition (EN7396), the Tully Nest 1966 case, and Prime Minister Harold Holt's documented briefing on the Tully case. His blog post "The Prime Minister's flying saucer briefing: Tully '66" of August 2025 remains the most thorough public account of that previously obscured episode.

Notable Public Statements

"The Australian UFO record is rich, but it has been allowed to scatter. My work has been about gathering the documentation before it disappears entirely from the public memory."

The OZ Files blog · 2022

"Tully '66 was briefed to the Prime Minister of Australia. The documents are in the National Archives. The fact this is news in 2025 is itself a comment on how the Australian record has been handled."
